Griffin, Heaney Earn National Rookie Honors


Manchester, N.H. (November 14) -- Saint Anselm field hockey freshmen Sara Griffin (Derry, N.H.) and Annie Heaney (East Kingston, N.H.) were honored by womensfieldhockey.com as members of their 2007 Division II All-Rookie Team, as selected by their staff writers.

Griffin, a freshman defender, led the Hawks with seven defensive saves and ranked among the Northeast-10 Conference leaders in that category. She also added two assists for the Hawks in 19 games played and started each contest as a rookie.

Heaney, a freshman forward, as fourth on the team in scoring with four goals and two assists for 10 points. In addition, she had one game-winning goal and one defensive save as she appeared in 18 games with nine starts.

The Saint Anselm field hockey team ended the season with a school-record nine victories and advanced to the Northeast-10 Tournament Semifinals for the first time in the program's history.
