Holy Cross Wins Consolation Game

Manchester, N.H. (March 2) -- Second-seeded Holy Cross took home third place honors in the ECAC Women's Open Hockey Tournament at Sullivan Arena on the campus of Saint Anselm College with a 3-0 shutout of fourth-seeded Saint Michael's in the consolation game on Sunday afternoon. The game marks the end of the season for both teams, as Holy Cross finishes the season 16-8-3 and Saint Michael's finishes the season 8-16-1.

The Crusaders took a 2-0 lead in the first period. Jocelyn Kratchmer (Watrous, Saskatchewan) scored her tenth goal of the season at the 11:34 mark to open up scoring for the Crusaders. Stephanie Couzin (Chicago, Ill.) and Casey Harvel (Lexington, Mass.) assisted on the goal. Samantha Rush (Wakefield, Mass.) scored her team-leading 14th goal of the season on a backhand that found the top left corner, beating the blocker of Saint Michael's goaltender, Melanie Cullen (Derry, N.H.). The short-handed goal at the 18:13 mark was assisted by Lisa Wilson (Corunnda, Ontario).

After a scoreless second period, Holy Cross struck late in the third period for their third goal of the game. Katherine Falkowski (East Sandwich, Mass.) scored her second goal of the season at the 17:49 mark, assisted by Katelyn Doherty (Toronto, Ontario).
