Manchester, N.H. (April 17) -- On Thursday afternoon, the Saint Anselm softball team picked up a split with Stonehill in Northeast-10 Conference play. The Hawks fell in game one by an 11-2 final before taking the nightcap, 6-1.

In the first inning of game one, the Hawks fell behind by a 6-0 margin behind a four-hit attack and two-RBI hits by Gina Vivona and Meghan Sheehy. An RBI by Brittney Birch (Bradford, Mass.) and an unearned run by sophomore Megan Lemire (Worcester, Mass.) pulled Saint Anselm to within 6-2 after the second inning. A single run in the third and two runs in both the fourth and sixth sealed up the win for the Skyhawks. Lemire took the loss for Saint Anselm, while Jaime Ippolitio picked up the win for Stonehill.

In game two, the Hawks took a quick 2-0 lead before Stonehill cut the margin in half at 2-1 after the top of the second. In the first, the Hawks scored when Moira McCabe (Brookline, N.H.) and Birch came home. The four-run fifth included three hits and four runs batted in as the Hawks earned a split to stay in the middle of the Northeast-10 playoff race. Katie Corey (Weymouth, Mass.) went the distance, scattering eight hits on one earned run to pick up her sixth NE-10 win of the season. Katie Mottau took the loss for Stonehill, giving up eight hits and six earned runs with one strikeout and three walks.

Saint Anselm improves to 15-11 overall and 9-7 in Northeast-10 play and returns to action on Saturday afternoon when the Hawks host Merrimack for a doubleheader beginning at Noon.
