Hawks Rout Eagles in Season Opener

Milford, N.H. (February 24) -- In the 2007 season opener at the Hampshire Dome, the Saint Anselm men's lacrosse team dominated visiting Green Mountain College in a 26-1 win over the Eagles on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks held a commanding 17-0 halftime lead as first-year head coach Rick Senatore picked up his collegiate coaching victory.

For Saint Anselm, 16 different players found the back of the net in the opening game of the season. Seven players posted a multiple-goal performance, led by four tallies from junior attack John Griffin (Hingham, Mass.).  Sophomore Chris Murphy (Winchester, Mass.), last year's leading scorer, posted a hat trick in the win as well. For Green Mountain, sophomore Steve Braunius (Lake Pleasant, N.Y.) scored the lone goal for the Eagles at the 10:02 mark of the fourth quarter.

In net for Saint Anselm, Andrew Roy (Westford, Mass.) got the start and made a pair of saves in the first two quarters of action. Stephen Boy (Newburyport, Mass.) saw action in the final two quarters as he also made two saves. Green Mountain goalie Hale Tomasson (Greenwich, Conn.) made seven saves in the loss.

The Hawks are now 1-0 overall, while the Eagles fall to 0-1 on the season. Saint Anselm is back in action on Friday, March 2nd as the team travels to Dominican for a non-conference game beginning at 4 p.m. That game is actually being played at Suffern High School in Suffern, N.Y., and not on the Dominican campus.
