Waltham, Mass. (March 24) -- Despite leading by a 7-0 margin in the third quarter, the Saint Anselm men’s lacrosse couldn’t hold off a furious Bentley rally as the Falcons defeated the Hawks in overtime by an 8-7 final on Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks jumped out to a quick lead and held a seemingly comfortable 7-0 advantage with 9:15 left in the third quarter followed a goal from Steve Trocki (Braintree , Mass. ). Bentley didn’t get on the board until 4:30 remaining in the third quarter when Kevin Gould scored the first of his three goals. The Falcons put home a trifecta in the final minutes of the third though and trailed by a 7-3 margin heading into the final quarter.
Bentley dominated the game in the fourth, outshooting the Hawks by a 14-4 margin and consistently chipping away at the Hawk lead. Danny Scavone tied the game with his second goal of the quarter with 3:24 left and the game headed into the extra period. Gould struck again for the Falcons with 2:56 left in the overtime to give the Falcons their eighth straight win over Saint Anselm. The Hawks last defeated Bentley on April 14, 1999 in Manchester .
Sophomore Chris Murphy (Winchester , Mass. ) led the Hawks with a pair of goals. Senior goalie Andrew Roy (Westford , Mass. ) made 13 saves in the loss.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 2-4 overall and are now 0-2 in Northeast-10 play. Saint Anselm is back in action on Saturday, March 31 when the team hosts Assumption for a 1 p.m. start.
