No. Andover, Mass. (April 11) -- The Saint Anselm men's lacrosse team pulled out a 9-4 win over No.10 ranked Merrimack on Wednesday evening in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Warriors jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead before nine unanswered Saint Anselm goals put the Hawks in control.
Prior to the game, both teams observed a moment of silence in memory of the father of Saint Anselm first-year head coach Rick Senatore. Senatore's father passed away earlier on Wednesday before the team's game with the Warriors.
With the Warriors up 3-0, Steve Trocki (Braintree, Mass.) pulled the Hawks within 3-2 with a pair of scores. After the Hawks quickly tied the contest on the first goal of the game from sophomore attack Chris Murphy (Winchester, Mass.), Murphy gave Saint Anselm the lead for good at 4-3 with just five seconds left in the first half. The Hawks continued to pour on the offense and built to a 9-3 lead before a late Merrimack goal accounted for the 9-4 final.
Murphy led the Hawks with a hat trick, while Trocki finished with a pair of scores for the Hawks. Freshman Matt O'Connell (Charlestown, Mass.) added a pair of assists in the win.
Senior goalie Andrew Roy (Westford, Mass.) made 14 saves in the win, while Eric Tompkins turned aside nine shots in the loss.
With the win, the Hawks snap a six-game losing streak and now stand at 3-6 overall and 1-4 in the Northeast-10.
