Hawks Fall to No. 4 Bryant on Saturday

Manchester, N.H. (April 21) -- On Saturday afternoon, the Saint Anselm men's lacrosse team fell by an 11-5 final to No. 4 ranked Bryant at Grappone Stadium.

Saint Anselm jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first quarter on goals from Matt Surrette (Wakefield, Mass.) and Chris Murphy (Winchester, Mass.). Bryant tied it up though with a pair of goals in a 28-second span before junior Steve Trocki (Braintree, Mass.) gave the Hawks the lead again with 2:33 left in the quarter. Bryant tied the game again with 1:01 left and pushed to a 5-3 halftime lead with a pair of man-up goals in the second quarter by Kevin Hoagland and Bryan Kaufman.

The Bulldogs took advantage of a number of Hawk penalties in the third and led by a pair of man-up scores by Kaufman, the visitors put up five goals in the quarter and led 10-3 after three periods. Saint Anselm scored twice in the fourth quarter on goals by Mike McClain (Milton, Mass.) and Murphy, but couldn't find the back of the net again against a tough Bulldog defense.

Murphy led the Hawks with a pair of goals, while Kaufman led the Bryant offense with four scores.

Senior goalie Andrew Roy (Westford, Mass.) made 13 saves in the loss, while Michael Kennedy turned aside 10 shots in the win for the Bulldogs.

With the loss, the Hawks falls to 4-7 overall and 2-5 in the Northeast-10. Bryant improves to 8-2 overall and remains perfect in the NE-10 at 7-0. Saint Anselm is back in action on Sunday when the team travels to Franklin Pierce for a 2 p.m. start.
