Four Saint Anselm Players Named
All-Northeast-10
Hawks Place Two On Second Team, Two On Third

Melissa O'Connor |
Manchester, N.H. (May 6, 2003) - Four members of the
Saint Anselm College softball team were named to the All- Northeast-10
Conference teams today as selected by the league's 15 head coaches.
The four players selected are the second-most ever in program history
to the six honored in the Hawks' NCAA Division II Tournament season
of a year ago.
Named to the conference's second team were sophomore outfielder
Maria Lisa Marciano (N. Reading, Mass./ N. Reading), and
sophomore third baseman Melissa O'Connor (Belmont, Mass./
Belmont).
Named to the conference's third team were senior first baseman Kristen
Haubrich (Concord, N.H./ Concord) and senior centerfielder Allison
Pearson (Bedford, N.H./ West).

Maria Lisa Marciano |
Marciano, a third-team all-conference and team MVP
last season, had another solid
year at the plate in her sophomore campaign. Through games in the
NE-10 Tournament, Marciano started 42 games, batted .281 with six
doubles one home run and a team-leading 17 RBI.
O'Connor had a breakthrough season at third base. She started all
44 games at the hot corner and emerged as the Hawks' leadoff batter,
hitting .300 (39-for-130) with five doubles, two triples, one home
run and 15 RBI.
Haubrich was a first team all-conference and All-New England selection
last season and was on track to repeat those feats before a serious
finger injury ended her career to weeks ago. She still stands tied
for second on the Saint Anselm roster with a .314 average (27-for-86)
in 26 games. She also added 12 RBI. Her best game was actually the
one in which she got injured as she batted 2-for-4 with three runs
a double and a grand slam.

Kristen Haubrich |
Pearson was also a third team selection in her junior
year and repeated the feat after moving to centerfield this season
and starting all 44 games. Her selection came largely based on her
defensive prowess after anchoring a strong outfield corps. She had
five outfield assists and started every game. Offensively, she banged
out 28 hits, had 10 RBI and led the Hawks with 10 stolen bases.
Under first year head coach Don Huot, Saint Anselm posted a 23-21
record and advanced to the Final Four of the Northeast-10 Conference
Tournament. The Hawks will now await a possible berth to the ECAC
Division II Tournament.
