Saint Anselm Beats Colby-Sawyer, 3-2
Hawks Go Distance Again, This Time Pull Out Win

New London, N.H. (October 17, 2002) -- The Saint Anselm women’s volleyball team overcame a two-game deficit to pick up a 3-2 (30-26, 26-30, 30-32, 30-21, 15-5) road victory over the Colby-Sawyer Chargers at the Coffin Field House Thursday.

The hosts recorded the first point of the decisive fifth game but the Hawks earned the next three and never looked back. Leading 9-5, Saint Anselm scored the final six points of the night to improve to 5-16 overall and 2-2 in five-game matches this year.

Marissa Caron (JR, Raymond, NH/Oyster River HS) led the winners with a match-high 20 kills, while teammate Robin Hinchey (SR, Billerica, MA/Billerica HS) distributed 57 assists. Karen Lyons (SO, Pocassett, MA/Bourne HS) tallied 13 digs and libero Amy Letourneau (SO, Pascoag, RI/Mount St. Charles HS) played a key defensive role in the victory with just six receiving errors on 46 serve receptions.

Playing its first five-gamer since November 2, 2000, Colby-Sawyer (9-11) received 11 kills and 23 digs from Mary Ann Prescott (JR, Laconia, NH/Laconia HS). Anne Coulter (FR, Hudson, NH/Bishop Guertin HS) and Kathy Couture (FR, Greenfield, MA/Greenfield HS) matched Prescott’s 11 kills and Sarah Blume (FR, Herman, MN/Wheaton HS) compiled 39 assists and 10 digs.

Both teams are scheduled to play tri-matches over the weekend. The Hawks are headed to New Haven, Connecticut to take on Southern Connecticut and Molloy on Saturday at Noon, while Colby-Sawyer is off until Sunday at 1:00 p.m. when it play Roger Williams and Eastern Connecticut in Bristol, Rhode Island.
