MANCHESTER, N.H. — Junior Marissa Caron (Madbury, N.H./Oyster River) totaled 20 kills and six blocks to lead the Saint Anselm College women’s volleyball team to a 3-2 win over Southern New Hampshire University tonight at the SNHU Fieldhouse. It marked the season-finale for both teams.

SNHU closed out the year at 11-11 overall and 5-9 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Hawks finish 11-19 overall and 5-9 in the league.

It marked the first season since 1986 that SNHU has posted a final record of .500 or better.

The Hawks opened the best-of-five match with a 30-24 win in game one, before the Penmen answered with a 30-21 win in game two. Saint Anselm posted a 30-22 win in game three, and SNHU forced and final game following a 30-22 win in game four.

The host Penmen rallied from a 13-10 deficit in game five and tied it at 14-14. The Hawks secured the win with two straight points, the match-winner coming off a solo block by senior Melissa Wright (North Attleboro, Mass./ Bishop Feehan).

Wright also totaled nine kills in the game, while sophomore Amy Letourneau (Pascoag, R.I./ Mount St. Charles) added a team-high 15 digs. Senior setter Robin Hinchey (Billerica, Mass./ Billerica) dished out 45 assists and in the process established a new school-record for assists in a season with 898.

Freshman Brittany Porter (Riverton, WY/Riverton) totaled 20 kills and five blocks for the Penmen, while sophomore Lauren Enny (Longmont, CO/Longmont) added 14 kills and a team-high 25 digs. Freshman Kristin Cowles (Lansing, NY) dished out 28 assists, while junior Haley Tozier (Farmington, NH) chipped in 22 digs and three service aces. Sophomore Lise Laczek (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) and freshman Deanna Guenther (Apollo, PA/Kiski Area) both totaled six aces for the hosts.
