Saint Anselm Sweeps Saint Michael's, 3-0
Hawks Stop Five-Game Skid

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- The Saint Anselm College women's volleyball team snapped a five-match losing streak following a 3-0 victory over Saint Michael's College here today at Stoutenburgh Gym. The Hawks improved to 3-9 overall and 1-3 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while Saint Michael's dropped to 6-6 overall and 1-3 in the league.

Saint Anselm jumped out to a 16-6 lead in the opening game of the best-of-five match and went on to post a 30-14 win. The Hawks held a 20-19 lead in game two and ran off six-straight points enroute to a 30-22 win. Game three saw the Purple Knight fall behind 23-13, only to battle back and cut the lead in half at 24-19. Saint Anselm responded with four-straight points and closed out the match with a 30-23 win.

Junior Marissa Caron (Raymond, N.H./Oyster River) led the Hawks with 13 kills and just one hitting error. She also contributed four blocks. Senior Melissa Wright (North Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) added seven kills and four blocks, while classmate Robin Hinchey (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) contributed a team-high 22 assists. Freshman Karen Lyons (Pocassett, Mass./ Bourne) totaled a team-high 24 digs.

Sophomore Lindsey Shumway (Scotia, N.Y./Burnt Hills) totaled nine kills and junior Heather Frame (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Burnt Hills) added 19 assists for Saint Michael's. Junior Katie Herb (Malden, N.Y./Saugerties) chipped in 14 digs in a losing effort.

Both teams return to action Tuesday (10/1). Saint Anselm travels to Bryant College for a league match, while the Purple Knights head to Green Mountain College for a non-league tilt.
