Saint Anselm Rallies Past Penmen
Blanchard, Petrowicz Power Hawks In Second Half

Blanchard (Presque Isle, Maine/ Presque Isle) scored 17 points
and senior Sara
Petrowicz (Grafton, Mass./ Holy Name) added 15 points and nine
rebounds to lead Saint Anselm College to a 65-54 victory over Southern
New Hampshire University here today in Northeast-10 Conference women's
basketball action.
The Hawks improved to 8-4 overall and 4-4 in the league following
their fourth-straight win. SNHU dropped to 3-7 overall and 0-7 in
the Northeast-10. The win also moved Saint Anselm's lead in the
all-time series to 34-4 against the Penmen.
Saint Anselm rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit and outscored
the host Penmen, 35-14 in the second half. SNHU shot 58-percent
(15-26) from the field in the first half enroute to a 40-30 halftime
lead.
The Hawks opened the second half with a 17-2 run and took a 47-42
lead following two free throws by freshman forward Raenielle
Decastro-Cain (Manchester, Conn./ Manchester) with 10:20 left
to play.
Saint Anselm held a 53-48 lead with just over five minutes, when
SNHU cut the lead to a point following a basket freshman Chrisondria
Griffith (Brockton, Mass.) and two free throws by fellow rookie
Glhansy Bonhomme (Laval, Quebec). Saint Anselm responded with nine
unanswered points and took a 62-52 lead following two free throws
by Blanchard with 23 seconds remaining.
The teams traded baskets for most of the first half and SNHU held
a 23-22 lead, when the hosts put together a 14-2 run. Back-to-back
three-pointers by junior Kerry McDonough (Palmer, Mass.) capped
the run and gave SNHU a 37-24 lead with 3:04 left before the break.
Lavilla finished with 16 points for SNHU, while Bonhomme added 13
points, five rebounds and five steals. Decastro-Cain helped the
Saint Anselm cause with 10 points, while Jen
Carson (Townsend, Mass./ N. Middlesex) had a game-high 14 rebounds.
Both teams return to action Wednesday (1/8). SNHU travels to Southern
Connecticut State University, while Saint Anselm travels to Stonehill
College.
