Manchester, N.H. (January 29, 2003)-The women's basketball team at Saint Anselm College took an early lead and never looked back as the Hawks topped the Bulldogs of Bryant College, 70-47, in a Northeast-10 matchup Wednesday night in front of 204 fans at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.

The win was only the second for Saint Anselm in its last seven games, but boosted the Hawks' record to 10-9 overall, 6-9 in NE-10 play, and 5-2 at home. Bryant fell to 12-7 on the season and 8-7 against conference foes.

After a relatively slow start, the Bulldogs closed the gap to four points on a layup from sophomore Lynne Zoltowski (Colts Neck, N.J./ Red Bank Catholic) with 8:03 remaining until halftime, but that was as close as Bryant would come to catching the Hawks. A 15-0 run by Saint Anselm, keyed by five of junior Brianna Blanchard's (Presque Isle, Maine/ Presque Isle) 16 points, put the game well in favor of the Hawks, 30-11, with 2:33 left in the half.

Following a 34-16 halftime lead for Saint Anselm, the Hawks continued to pour on the points in the second half. The Saint Anselm lead expanded to as much as 28 points, 68-40, in the final stanza due in large part to 11 of freshman Raenielle Decastro-Cain's (Manchester, Conn./ Manchester) game-high 21 points coming after the intermission. The Bulldogs were only able to reduce the gap to 23 points, 70-47, by the game's end.

In addition to the 21 points from Decastro-Cain and 16 from Blanchard, nine of the 10 players on the Hawks' roster contributed to the rout.

Junior Mary McConnell (Pawtucket, R.I./ Saint Raphael Acad.) was the only Bulldogs' player to score in double figures as she finished with 16.

Saint Anselm is back in action on Saturday February 1st when the Hawks welcome Assumption to Stoutenburgh for a 1:30 PM NE-10 game.
