Saint Anselm Stymied In OT, 56-49
Southern Connecticut Comes Back, Grounds Hawks

Manchester, N.H. (February 5, 2003)-The women's basketball team at Saint Anselm could not maintain the early lead it established and subsequently fell to the Owls of Southern Conn. St. in a Northeast-10 matchup Wednesday evening at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.

The Hawks fell to 10-11 overall-this marks the first time Saint Anselm has dropped below .500 this season-and 6-11 in conference play. SCSU jumped to 15-6 overall and 10-6 in the league with the win.

With the score knotted at 14 apiece and 7:24 remaining before halftime, the Hawks embarked on a 12-3 run, including six of Brianna Blanchard's (Presque Isle, Maine/ Presque Isle) eight first-half points, to take a 26-17 halftime lead.

Saint Anselm tried to nurse its 11-point lead in the second half, but with 13:41 remaining SCSU began to heat up. The Owls went on a tear of 12 unanswered points-eight coming from junior Jessica Kolakoski (Wolcott, Conn./ Wolcott)-in less than two minutes to seize a 37-36 advantage with 10:45 remaining. The Hawks rebuilt a six point lead, 45-39, with 4:27 to play, but failed to score in the remainder of regulation and Owls' freshman Anabel Perdomo (Lawrence, Mass./ Gov. Dummer Acad.) tied the game at 45 with 47 seconds left forcing overtime.

A three point play by Hawks' junior Jen Carson (Townsend, Mass./ N. Middlesex) was not enough as the Owls shot 8-for-10 from the foul line in the extra period and coasted to the 56-49 victory.

Carson led all scorers with a career-high 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Blanchard netted 14 points as well.

Junior Jenese Wilcox (Port Chester, N.Y./ Providence) topped the SCSU roster with 19 points-including a 3-pointer in overtime that put the Owls up for good-and Kolakoski poured in 14 more.

The Hawks are back in action on February 8th, when Saint Anselm travels to the College of Saint Rose for a 1:30 tip-off.
