Saint Anselm Sweeps New York Swing
Hawks Keep Home Playoff
Hopes Alive, Sweep Dolphins, 64-42
Syracuse, N.Y. (February 11, 2003)- Saint Anselm won
its third straight road game with a 64-42 win over Le Moyne College
in a Northeast-10 Conference game played at Ted Grant Court in Syracuse,
N.Y.
The Hawks jumped out to a 11-point lead in the first, led by an
many as 25 points in the second, and were never seriously threatened.
Sara Petrowicz
(Grafton, Mass./ Holy Name) hit a milestone in the game, becoming
the 14th player in school history to reach the 1,000 point plateau.
The win marked the first time since the 1995-96 season that the
Hawks have won three straight road games. It also marked the first
time ever that they have won three straight games in the state of
New York as they completed a sweep of Saint Rose, Pace and the Dolphins.
The Hawks improve to 13-11 overall, 9-11 in the NE-10 to keep alive
the possibility of hosting a first round playoff game in the upcoming
NE-10 tourney. The Hawks also move ahead of the Dolphins in the
standings (ninth place) as Le Moyne falls to 12-13 overall, 9-11
in the NE-10 with two of those losses coming to Saint Anselm.
Petrowicz and Brianna
Blanchard (Presque Isle, Maine/ Presque Isle) led three Hawks
in double figures with 12 points each. Petrowicz added nine rebounds
and Jen Carson
(Townsend, Mass./ N. Middlesex) added a double-double with 11 points
and 12 rebounds. The Dolphins were led by Stacey Schrader (Fairport,
N.Y.) who had a game-high 14 points on 6-for-9 shooting.
In the first half, Saint Anselm built a 15-4 lead over the first
11:00 of play as the Dolphins stumbled out of the gate, shooting
2-for-16 with seven turnovers. With 3:24 remaining in the opening
session, Petrowicz extended the Hawks' lead to 23-8 with a 3-pointer.
The Dolphins finally broke into double digits with 3:00 left and
went into the locker rooms trailing 29-18.
Saint Anselm returns to action on Wednesday when the Hawks host
Green Mountain College in a 7:00 non-conference matchup in Stoutenburgh
Gym. The game will be sponsored as a Take A Kid to A Game Night,
with all children and accompanying adults getting into the game
for free.
