Manchester, N.H. (February 22, 2003)-The Saint Anselm women's basketball team avenged an earlier Northeast-10 loss with an 86-69 win over Saint Michael's College, for its fifth-consecutive victory, in front of 891 fans at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, Saint Anselm is now 15-11 overall and 10-11 in NE-10 play, while the Purple Knights fall to 17-9 on the season and 12-9 in the conference.

In the first half, the Hawks were led by 14 of junior Brianna Blanchard's (Presque Isle, Maine/ Presque Isle) game-high 20 points, which came on 5-9 shooting-including 4-of-4 from beyond the arc. As a team, Saint Anselm was 9-for-12 from three-point range in the first half. The Purple Knights' were without the services of senior Liz LeFebvre (Milton, Vt./ Milton), who leads the NE-10 in scoring and rebounding with 20.1 ppg and 10.4 rpg, for much of the first half due to foul trouble. Saint Anselm allowed Saint Michael's to shoot 43-percent in the first half, but the Hawks still took a commanding 54-32 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Saint Anselm lead expanded to as much as 33 points in the second half, when freshman Raenielle Decastro-Cain (Manchester, Conn./ Manchester) dropped in two of her 16 points with 11:09 to play to make the score 81-48. The Purple Knights then ended the game on a 21-5 run, but the game was not salvageable for Saint Michael's as the Hawks came away with the 86-69 victory.

In addition to the performances by Blanchard and Decastro-Cain, junior Jennifer Reddish (Weymouth, Mass./ Archbishop Williams) poured in a career-high 17 points by shooting 6-9 from the floor, including 4-5 from 3-point range-also a career-high. Junior Jen Carson (Townsend, Mass./ N. Middlesex) pulled down 10 rebounds for the Hawks.

The Hawks held LeFebvre to 12 points and five rebounds, forcing senior Jes Hambley (S. Hadley, Mass/ S. Hadley) to handle scoring load with 19 points, which includes shooting 7-for-8 from the foul line. Junior Erica Kensey (Bow, N.H./ Bow) chipped in with 13 points for the visitors.

Saint Anselm returns to the court for Senior Night on Tuesday February 25th when the Golden Knights of Saint Rose come to Stoutenbugh; tip-off is slated for 5:30.
