Manchester, N.H. (February 25, 2003)-The Saint Anselm women's basketball team upended Northeast-10 rival Saint Rose, 77-42, Tuesday night in front of 699 fans in Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.

The victory-sixth in as many games for the Hawks-boosted the hosts' record to 16-11 overall and evened their conference mark at 11-11. The Golden Knights fell to 8-19 on the year and 6-16 in NE-10 play with the loss.

In a decidedly slow first half, Saint Rose senior Liz Coughlin (Somerset, Mass./ Somerset) knotted the game at 11-11 by hitting a pair of free throws with 9:04 remaining until halftime. Saint Anselm then erupted for a 23-11 run to take a 34-22 lead with 1:51 to go before the break. Much of the Hawks' first half firepower came from senior Sara Petrowicz (Grafton, Mass./ Holy Name) who led the game with 14 points at the intermission, nine of which came during the run. Saint Anselm led by 10 at the break, 34-24.

Jennifer Reddish
Jen Reddish hit all three long balls against Saint Rose and is 7-for-8 in her last two games.

Not willing to rest on their laurels, the Hawks broke the game open with a 28-11 run to open the second half. Junior Brianna Blanchard (Presque Isle, Maine/ Presque Isle) was the catalyst for the Hawks' second half run contributing 10 of her 13 points during the stretch. Saint Anselm held the Golden Knights to 18 points in the second half on 27-percent shooting (7-for-26), and coasted to the 77-42 final.

The Hawks finished the regular season with a 9-0 mark when they manage to score at least 70 points.

Petrowicz led all scorers with 16 points while Blanchard and freshman Raenielle Decastro-Cain (Manchester, Conn./ Manchester) each added 13.

Senior Amanda Young (Admire, Kan./ Northern Heights) was the only member of the Golden Knights roster to register double figures in scoring as she finished with 10 points.

Despite the victory, Saint Anselm will not host an opening round game in the upcoming NE-10 tournament as American International upset Stonehill College, 64-61, to clinch the eighth position in the final regular season rankings. The Hawks will now have to travel to Springfield, Mass. to face the Yellow Jackets in the first round.
