Manchester, N.H. (November 26, 2002)-The Saint Anselm College women's basketball team defeated Northeast-10 Conference rival Pace University, 75-61, Tuesday evening in front of 389 fans at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.

This was the first time the Hawks (3-0, 1-0 NE-10) have defeated the Setters (1-2, 0-1 NE-10) since February 12, 2000.

Pace gained control of the game in the early moments, seizing a 9-5 lead with 16:14 remaining in the half, but a 10-0 Saint Anselm run-keyed by four points and an assist from freshman Lanna Martin (Calais, Maine/ Calais)-initiated a lead that the Hawks would sustain for the remainder of the evening. The Setters cut the lead to two points, 23-21, behind a short jumper from junior Melissa Liverpool (Laurel, Md./ Miami-Dade CC) at the 7:22 mark, but that was as close at the visitors would get as a 14-0 run by the Hawks expanded the margin to 37-21 with 2:44 remaining before they left the half with a 42-28 advantage.

Brianna Blanchard
Brianna Blanchard had team highs of 15 points and eight boards.

The Setters made a concerted effort to regain momentum with an 8-0 run that cut the Saint Anselm lead to six with 6:43 left to play. Thoughts of a comeback were quickly smothered as Saint Anselm junior Brianna Blanchard (Presque Isle, Maine/ Presque Isle) connected with one of her game-high three three-pointers pushing the Hawks' lead to 65-56 with 6:30 to go. From that point on, clutch field goals from senior Sara Petrowicz (Grafton, Mass./ Grafton) and free throw shooting from junior Molly Dullea (Longmeadow, Mass./ Longmeadow) sealed a Saint Anselm victory.

The Hawks were led by Blanchard's 15 points and eight rebounds, while Petrowicz added 15 points and seven boards of her own. Dullea had another impressive game at the point scoring 11 and dishing out eight assists.

Liverpool led all scorers with 25 points, and classmate Enza Morris (Miami, Fla./ Miami-Dade CC) chipped in 10 points off the bench for Pace.

Saint Anselm returns to action on December 1st when the Hawks travel to Assumption for a 2:00 PM tip-off, while Pace heads to Oakdale, N.Y. for a non-conference game against Dowling College on November 30th at 1:00 PM.
