The Hawks:
Saint Anselm fell from the ranks of the undefeated in the Northeast-10 by losing to Assumption 71-59 in its last outing. In recent years, the Hawks have developed a reputation of being a strong team in the friendly and familiar confines of Stoutenburgh Gymnasium, but vulnerable away from home having not posted a winning record on the road since 1998-99. This theory was proven accurate after the Hawks’ starting lineup shot a combined 16-51 (.314) from the field against Assumption after handily defeated Pace at home, 75-61.

The Opponent:
Bryant College ended the 2001-02 season with a 16-13 mark including an 11-11, seventh place finish in the NE-10. The Bulldogs’ record is slated to improve this season as they return four starters and 12 lettermen from last year. They are already showing signs of great things to come after falling just short against last year’s NE-10 tournament runner-up Le Moyne.
The Bulldogs outshot Saint Anselm, .349 to .318, in the only meeting between the two teams last season, but fell victim to the Hawks 13 second-half free throws.

The Game:
Home Sweet Home... Saint Anselm has dominated the series as of late, winning five of the last six meetings, but the true story behind this match-up is geography as opposed to chronology. The Home team has been victorious in eight of the last ten encounters dating back to December 7, 1996.

Of Note:
With 13 points against Assumption, Sara Petrowicz moved into a tie with Katie Qualter (‘97) for 22nd all-time among Hawks players... Petrowicz needs six rebounds to become 10th on the Hawks’ career list for total boards... Jen Carson is 18 points away from entering the 400/400 club; she already has 407 rebounds in her tenure... Assuming they maintain their current pace, Petrowicz should enter the 1,000 point club in the Hawks’ rematch with Assumption on 2/1/03 and Brianna Blanchard should follow suit in the regular season finale against Saint Rose; this would mark the first time in the program’s history that two players have reached such a prestigious mark in the same season.
