Saint Anselm Falls To Assumption
Hawks Eliminated From NE-10 Tourney, 13-8
Worcester, Mass. (April 27, 2003)-The Saint Anselm
women's lacrosse program was mathematically eliminated from reaching
this year's Northeast-10 Tournament by falling, 13-7, to Assumption
in an NE-10 game played at Worcester State this afternoon.
With the loss, Saint Anselm falls to 3-9 on the season and 2-6 in
league play and will miss the conference tournament for the first
time since the program's inaugural season in 2000. Assumption improves
to 4-6 overall and 4-4 against NE-10 opponents.
Saint Anselm freshman Kristen Conlon (Milton, Mass./ Milton)
netted a goal and dished out a pair of assists in the first half,
but was outdueled by the Greyhounds first-year standout, Jenny Mongeau
(Westboro, Mass.), who scored four of her game-high seven goals
before the intermission to give Assumption a 5-3 halftime lead.
The Greyhounds capitalized on momentum generated by a successful
first-half to extend their lead to 9-4 with 12:19 remaining in the
game. The Hawks would only manage to find the back of the net three
more times on the afternoon as Assumption cruised to the 13-7 final
score.
Senior Katelynn O'Connell (Sandwich, Mass./ Sandwich) equaled
Conlon for the team lead on the day with a pair of goals and an
assist for the Hawks.
Sophomore goalkeeper Karen Spellman (Woburn, Mass./ Arlington
Catholic) finished with eight saves taking the loss for Saint Anselm.
Marjorie Schepp (Middletown, N.J.) made 13 saves while earning the
win in the cage for the Greyhounds.
The Hawks will end their season tomorrow when they travel to Southern
Conn. St. for an NE-10 game scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM.
