Hawks Drop NE-10 Opener Waltham, Mass. (March 25, 2003) -- The Bentley College womens lacrosse team used five goals and four assists from sophomore Shandra Bacher (Concord, N.H.) to defeat Saint Anselm College 17-6 in the Northeast-10 opener for both teams at the Bentley sports complex Tuesday night. Bacher was one of three Falcons to record hat tricks Tuesday night, as freshmen Stephanie Droney (Beverly, Mass.) recorded her second straight three-goal outing, and senior Lauren Dickie (Canton, Mass.) added five tallies of her own. The Falcons jumped on the Hawks from the start as Bacher recorded her first goal at 1:14 of the first stanza. The Falcons went up a pair on Droneys first of the evening, and the Saint Anselm cut the lead in half on Jackie Trayers (Sandwich, Mass./ Sandwich) goal at 5:16. Bentleys thrilling threesome of Droney, Dickie and Bacher answered Saint Anselms counter with each tallying a goal to make it a 5-1 game. Saint Anselm once again tried to climb back into the game with Trayers second of three on the night, but Bentley busted the game open with eight unanswered goals to put the game out of reach. Bentley goalie Monica Rose (Westfield, Mass.) was tested in her 50 minutes of action making 10 saves, before giving way to freshman goalie Lisa Cavallo (Hopkinton, Mass.) who made two stops. Bentley improves to 2-0 on the young season, and 1-0 in the NE-10, with Saint Anselm dropping to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play. The Hawks are scheduled to open up their home schedule on Thursday with a non-conference match against New England College.
