Hawks Bested By Bryant, 13-5
Hat Trick From Blaisdell Propels Bulldogs

Manchester, N.H. (April 2, 2003)-The women's lacrosse team at Saint Anselm was unsuccessful in its bid to earn its first Northeast-10 victory of the season as Bryant topped the Hawks for the first time in team history, 13-5, on Wednesday afternoon in Grappone Stadium.

Saint Anselm dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the NE-10 with the loss; while Bryant evened its record at 3-3 overall and 3-1 in league play following the win.

The Hawks drew first blood for the first time this season when freshman Kristen Conlon (Milton, Mass./ Milton) scored on a feed from classmate Jacquelyn Trayers (Sandwich, Mass./ Sandwich) just 45 seconds into the first half. That was the last time Saint Anselm would have the lead during the game. A quick pair of goals from sophomore Cathy Sbarra (Bethpage, N.Y./ Island Trees) and senior Dana Paquin (N. Smithfield, R.I./ Shenandoah University) gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead with 26:26 left until halftime. Bryant would extend its lead to 5-2 by the intermission on the strength of three unanswered goals.

Following a pair of Bulldogs' goals to open the second half, Saint Anselm answered back with tallies from senior Kristin Conte (Sheldon, Vt./ Bellows Free Acad.) and junior Amanda Considine (Littleton, N.H./ Littleton) to cut the lead to 7-4 with 19:39 remaining. Hopes for a Hawks comeback were dashed, however, as Bryant rattled-off five unanswered goals, including two of junior Elizabeth Blaisdell's (Gorham, Maine/ Gorham) game-high three scores en route to the 13-5 final.

Junior goalkeeper Karen Spellman (Woburn, Mass./ Arlington Catholic) made seven saves of the 20 shots that the Bulldogs put on net, and her counterpart, freshman Samantha Libby (Penhacook, N.H./ Merrimack Valley) stopped four of the nine shots on goal from the Hawks.

Saint Anselm now has a short break before welcoming American International and Stonehill to Manchester on Saturday at 12 noon and Sunday at 2:00 PM, respectively.
