Saint Anselm Comeback Hopes Fall Short, 16-7

Colchester, Vt. (April 10, 2003)-The Saint Michael's women's lacrosse team remains unbeaten in the Northeast-10 Conference after a 16-7 win over Saint Anselm College at Doc Jacobs Field Thursday.

Saint Michael's improves to 3-2 overall and 3-0 in the NE-10 while Saint Anselm drops to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the NE-10.

Senior co-captain Amanda Lohin (Wellesley, Mass.) led the Purple Knights in scoring by tallying a season-high six goals and four assists on the day. Saint Michael's jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first half before Hawks' senior Katelynn O'Connell (Sandwich, Mass./ Sandwich) put the visitors on the board with just four seconds remaining.

O'Connell led the way for Saint Anselm picking up three goals and an assist. Four different players picked up goals as well for the Hawks and Saint Anselm rallied to play what was arguably its best half of the season following the 8-1 mid-game deficit.


Senior Katelynn O'Connell exploded for three goals and one assist against the Purple Knights.

 

Sophomore Kate Hallisey (West Roxbury, Mass.) netted four goals and two assists for Saint Michael's while classmate Lauren Piekarski (E. Sandwich, Mass.) added three goals and three assists.

Purple Knights goaltender Jess Anderson (Springfield, Vt.) made 12 saves in net while junior Karen Spellman (Woburn, Mass./ Arlington Catholic) recorded six saves for the Hawks.

The Purple Knights return to action on Saturday against Southern Connecticut at 11 am on Doc Jacobs Field.
