Juried ’08 Fine Arts Student Exhibition
Exhibition: April 11 - May 2

The opening of the Juried ’08 Fine Arts Student Exhibition on April 10, featured exceptional student work among which 10 awards were distributed. The following students were recognized for their outstanding artistic talent:

• Arthur Gibree ’08, a Fine Arts major, received the Premier Award for Scenes from the Age of Darkness.
• Mansur Raaid Cotman-El ’08, a Psychology major, received the Cappella Award for Portrait of a Man (after Sherrie McGraw).
• Seth Parker ’08, a Criminal Justice major, received the Drawn from Life Award for Self Portrait and a Juror’s Award for A Pause for Smiles in a World at War. He was also a Finalist for An Open Corridor.
• Shannon L. Finn ’08, a Fine Arts major, received a Juror’s Award for The American Dichotomy.
• Victor Stetsyuk ‘08 received the E.W. Poore Award for Elegant Mother of Plump Child.
• Maeve Bacon received the King Award for You Decide.
• Christie Telge ’09, a Fine Arts major, received the Color Shop Award for Gourd.
• Jillian Doherty ’08, was a Finalist for Raised Toward Above.

The Chapel Art Center’s annual juried exhibition of student work is a much anticipated and exciting draw on Saint Anselm College’s campus and in the surrounding community. Fine Arts majors, as well as students from a variety of majors, participate each year in this select group of works.

Distinguished jurors bring kudos and distinguishing awards to honor the students' achievements. We were pleased to host Bruce McColl, Director of the Currier Museum Art Center in Manchester, NH as this year's juror.

Interrupted Life: Incarcerated Mothers in the United States
Opening Reception: Thursday, Jan. 24, 6-8 p.m.
Exhibition: Friday, Jan. 25 - Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008

The Chapel Art Center hosts this beautiful and dramatic traveling exhibition, in collaboration with other campus constituencies, to provide a powerful occasion for paying attention to the facts and experiences of incarceration in the United States.

This exhibition, composed of the work of incarcerated mothers and artists around the country, will assist viewers to become educated and active community members, searching for further information and decent solutions to a major and growing problem in U.S. society.
