In the Shadow of Salem

Early 19th Century Literature in Performance

For 30 years, New Art Theatre/Living Classics has employed Chamber Theatre staging techniques to bring literature to live student auidiences with a compelling synthesis of movement, music, evocative abstract scene elements, and dramatic readings of original texts. In The Shadow Of Salem: 19th Century Literature and the Supernatural continues the tradition with a riveting new take on Nathaniel Hawthorne's Young Goodman Brown and Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Talk-backs with the cast deepen a participatory exploration of context, history, and archetypes that extends to other works and situations. Wonderful for middle and high school.
