San Jose Taiko

Rhythm Journey

A superb, blood-racing exhibition of taiko drumming!San Francisco Chronicle

Since 1973 San Jose Taiko has mesmerized audiences with powerful, spellbinding, and propulsive sounds that express the beauty and harmony of the human spirit through the voice of the taiko (a Japanese word meaning 'drum'). With hard-driving music and intricate choreography on traditional drums that range in size from the smallest snare to the largest wine barrel and beyond, San Jose Taiko has blazed a new dimension in Asian American movement and music by giving Japanese taiko's traditional rhythms African, Brazilian, Filipino, Latin, and jazz inflections. The rich, diverse sound, and the incredible choreography that brings it to life, still resonate with taiko's emphasis on the human spirit and honors the Asian soul in America. One of the first American taiko ensembles ever to be invited to perform in Japan, San Jose Taiko produces performances that are theatrical and deeply inspiring; a feast to the eye and ear. You won't want to miss this extraordinary musical opportunity!
