Although an assumption might be made that a triumphant Germanicus addressed Augustus & Senate (who obviously have practiced their synchronized cheering), there would be no evidence for it- not even in Graves. Obviously Jack has something up his drama sleeve- the Senate makes a nice interior frame for his plot. The sources, which do discuss the pacification of Germany, give credit to the commander- Tiberius. Can't have any of that nonsense in Pulman-land. Oh, one more quibble, if the legions have returned from the Rhine, who's guarding those frontier borders? |
