The Relationship of Paranormal Beliefs and Personality: Needs and Conformity

by: Karen Palys

Abstract

The connection is poorly developed in the literature between paranormal beliefs and many types of personality. The present study examined the hypotheses that there would be differences in the means between high and low subjects for all the EPPS subscales on both the Fear and Belief scales. The AEI was administered (N = 40) to test for paranormal beliefs and fears, the EPPS was administered to determine personality needs, and the Cooperativeness scale of the JPI-R looked for the level of conformity. A one-way ANOVA with a Tukey post-hoc found significance between Nurturance and Belief.
