Introduction To Identity Stages and Intimacy of Adult Children of Divorce
There is great disparity in the literature on Divorce.  Many studies have found that there is indeed a relationship between divorce and many negative affects, such as  poor future relationships.  There is also a great deal of research that indicates that there is no relationship between divorce and negative development of future relationships.  This disparity of research may be due to the many factors including the age of the child when parental divorce occurred, how the parents related to the child after the divorce and so on.  In research like this confounds are difficult to control for.  The current research on ego identity stages and intimacy in adult children of divorce, found no correlation between fear of intimacy, ego identity status and divorced participants.   This does not mean that this is always the case as shown by previous research.  I encourage anyone interested in this area to continue research like this, and help people understand the implications of parental relationships.
