Acknowledgements

I would like to begin by thanking the Psychology Department for all of the support they have given to me throughout this study.  In particular, I would like to thank Professor McKenna and Professor Flannery for their expertise and input in the area of child development.  Whenever I ran into a problem or had questions, they took the time to assist me in every way possible.  I would also like to thank Professor Finn for all of his strength and optimism throughout the semester.  There were many times when this study seemed nearly impossible, but Professor Finn stood by all of us and reassured us that it would get done.
It goes without saying that my family has been more than supportive throughout this process.  Giving me this educational opportunity has broadened my understanding of people and the world around me.  Their patience and guidance is greatly appreciated, and will continue to be.  My parents have given me the strength to follow through until the end, and have given me the gift of determination.  Knowing that anything is possible, if you put your mind to it, has certainly carried me through the past year.  In addition, I would like to thank Caleigh and Patrick Vink for inspiring me to learn more about the metacognitive development of bilingual children.
I would also like to thank the administration at the Highland Goffs Falls Elementary School for allowing me to conduct my research there.  The faculty was more than helpful in providing me with all of the resources needed to carry out my study.  Surely, without their cooperation, this would not have been possible.  Also, I would like to thank Dr. Sara H. Pierce, of Louisiana State University, for the use of the Metamemory Battery.
To my Experimental II class: thank you all for the insight and assistance.  From day one, we all worked together as a team and I am so proud of and grateful for everyone. I would also like to give a special thanks to my roomates, Laurie and Katie for all of their support, especially through the most stressful moments. To Rick, thank you for all your help and patience in the past couple of months—I really appreciate it. Finally, a huge thank-you to Kylee and Tracey—a little encouragement goes a long way and I thank you both for that. Congratulations, we did it!
