The following guide is intended to provide an overview of resources available in the library and online on the subject of comparative juvenile justice systems. For further assistance, please take advantage of the reference services available to you in the library. Stop by the Reference Desk in person or online at Ask a Librarian.
The reference collection offers an extensive collection of readings in the area of juvenile justice. Here you will find encyclopedias and handbooks, statistics, names of authorities, and bibliographies which lead to additional sources. Notice that most reference books on the subject of Juvenile Justice are in the HV 7231–HV 9920.5 call number range. Please take some time to consult one or more of the materials listed below.

For more material that is not available at Geisel Library, you may wish to conduct keyword searching in WorldCat (an online catalog encompassing the holdings of thousands of libraries worldwide). Limit the Material Type to "Books" and the Year to recent years (e.g. "2000–2007") to find recently-published books only.
Inside most of the individual book records is a link enabling you to request the book via Interlibrary Loan; all you need to do is input your name and contact information, and submit the request. The book will be available at our circulation desk within 1–2 weeks. You will be emailed when it arrives, and you can check it out for a specified borrowing period. If the book is owned by Geisel Library, you will see a green Saint Anselm College label below the title, meaning that you can search for it in our online catalog.

A broad index providing abstracts and some full-text for a range of academic areas, including criminal justice.
ERIC
This database contains much information concerning juvenile justice subjects.
PsycINFO
This database from the American Psychological Association supplies indexing and abstracts from 1887 to the present for journals in over 25 languages plus English-language books and book chapters from 1987. Use this index to locate articles on crime, victimization, forensic psychology, antisocial behavior, etc. User Guide
Restorative Justice Database
"Created and maintained by the Centre of Criminology Library, this database includes citations to academic and practitioner literature from 1970 to the present. It is updated and maintained on a regular basis and presently includes more than 1,400 records." The database can be searched or browsed using broad subject areas such as alternative dispute resolution, community policing, offender outcomes, and teen courts.
SocINDEX
Indexes journals, books, and conference papers in sociology and related fields, including information on social problems, crime, law enforcement, delinquency, corrections, and more.
LexisNexis Academic – Legal
Find legal news, law reviews, case law, and codes and regulations.
Westlaw Campus
Westlaw Campus provides access to the complete laws and statutes of the federal government and all 50 states, all federal regulations published in the Federal Register and the Code of Federal Regulations, and current and archived articles from hundreds of law reviews and journals. Westlaw Campus also includes the major law reference works American Jurisprudence and American Law Reports, which offer authoritative, encyclopedic discussions of legal issues.

Bureau of Justice Statistics
The Bureau of Justice Statistics collects and disseminates statistics about U.S. crime and justice, including crimes and victims, criminal offenders, and the justice system. See also International Justice Statistics.
Juvenile Death Penalty Today
Contains data on juvenile executions from 1973 through June 2004.
National Criminal Justice Profiles
From the European Institute for Crime Prevention and Control, each profile "contains information on the criminal justice systems of various countries in Europe and North America." Most are available in pdf format for download.
National Youth Gang Center (NYGC): Publications Link
Links to surveys, statistical data, and analysis, including juvenile arrests, delinquency cases in juvenile courts, and youth gangs.
OJJDP (Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention) Statistical Briefing Book
Provides basic information on juvenile crime and victimization and on youth involved in the juvenile justice system as well as timely and reliable statistical answers to the most frequently asked questions.

Both the "Criminal Justice Links Annotated" section and the "Statistical Resources" section are organized by country, and lead to such links as departments of justice, court systems, law enforcement, crime surveys, and prison statistics. The World Factbook of Criminal Justice Systems
These 42 country descriptions are written to a common template so that comparisons of similar functions in different countries can be easily made. They were completed in mid-1993, although the most recent data available for inclusion were sometimes for a year or two earlier. Select the ASCII file for a country and then use the browser's "Find" feature to locate a more specific topic, such as 'age of criminal responsibility.'
