This is a guide to selected sources of information related to the Bible in Geisel Library. It is meant as a starting point for your research. Please consult a reference librarian for additional assistance.
Search the library catalog to locate books in the Geisel Library. It is wise to search the online catalog by keyword if you are unsure of the title or the 'official' subject heading, or if you are just beginning your research. Here are a few examples of keywords that would produce results for Bible research (note: use an asterisk * to locate plural and singular forms of your keywords):
- anchor bible and isaiah
- bible and concordance*
- bible and literature
- bible and commentar*
- bible and commentar* and exodus
When you search the online catalog by subject, you must use a Library of Congress Subject Heading (LCSH). The library assigns subject headings to all items listed in the online catalog. This makes it easy to find books on the same or similar topics. Some examples of subject headings for Bible research are listed below. Please see a reference librarian for help in finding additional subject headings.
- Bible Concordances
- Bible N.T. Criticism
- Bible N.T. John Commentaries
- Bible O.T. Genesis (or other Old Testament book)
- Theology Dictionaries
When you find a book of interest in the catalog, the call number will direct you to its place on the library shelves. Most Bible studies materials are shelved in the BS section. Search WorldCat to search the collections of libraries worldwide. Find a book in this database, and, if not owned by SAC, you can request it from Interlibrary Loan with one click. Your book(s) will be available for pickup in the library within 7–14 days. Ask for help in using this database at the reference desk, in person, or online at Ask a Librarian.
