Connecting From Off Campus

Most of our indexes and databases are available off campus to current student, faculty, and staff members of Saint Anselm College. Access from off campus requires you to log in using your last name and the barcode (S12345) from your college ID.

If you have had more than one college ID, you may need to update your record at the library's Circulation Desk.

If you have further questions regarding off-campus access, please call the Reference Desk staff at 641-7306 or Jeff Waller at 656-6200.

Printing and Word Processing FAQs
  1. What's the best way to save my documents?

Open your e-mail account in Citrix. Copy and paste the Word document into your
    e-mail and save it.

  2. My document is printing both sides of the paper. How do I change this?

Go to File, then Print, then click on the Preferences button. The check box for "Print on Both Sides" is on the dialog box that appears, under "Document Options;" click on it to make the check disappear. If you don't see the checkbox, click on the Finishing tab—the checkbox will appear on the dialog box that appears.

  3. Why can't I print my PDF document?

On your screen are two printer icons. Click on the one directly over the PDF document, not the one that is above that on the Explorer navigation bar.

Printing MS Office documents inside Blackboard using Internet Explorer version 7

Problem:

When an MS Word document or other MS Office files are opened inside the Blackboard frameset under Internet Explorer 7, the following error message is printed instead of the document: "The document in this frame cannot be printed as laid out. This frame will be printed separately."

Solutions:
  1. Right-click the link to the document and select to open the target in a new window or browser tab (new feature on IE7). Such a document displayed on its own, not inside a frameset, prints fine via the browser's print button.

  2. Right-click the link to the document and choose to save it to disk, then double-click the local file to open it from its native Office application and print it from there.

  3. Choose to always open such documents in their native application, stand-alone, not inside the browser window. To do so, open "Windows Explorer" or "My Computer", and in the "Tools > Folder Options" menu choice, find the "File Types" tab, and then the file type of interest, e.g. DOC. Click the "Advanced" button and de-select "browse in same window".

  4. With the .doc open inside the IE frameset, click the small black triangle next to the printer icon, and choose "Print" or type Ctrl-P. (Do not just click the printer icon, or type Alt-R, which will print to your default printer without asking further questions.) On the resulting dialog, click the "Options" tab at top, then select "As laid out on screen". This will print first the Word document, then a separate print job with the browser frameset containing the above error message. (The other options, "only selected frame" and "each frame individually" do not work. Also, the Print Preview feature offers the same three choices, but neither of them manages to print the Word document.)

  5. For PowerPoint, a print option is available from the context menu inside the presentation, where normal PowerPoint printing options can be found.
