If you see a button next to an article of interest, click it to determine whether the journal is available in the Geisel Library or in full text via another electronic database. This database provides full-text access to every page of the New York Times, from 1851 to 2003. The searchable collection includes digital reproductions, so that even advertisements and political cartoons from every available issue may be viewed.

Ebrary is an online library containing thousands of e-books spanning across all scholarly disciplines. A one-stop source for the latest annual reports of over 2,000 companies, searchable by company name, industry, or sector.
Business Source Premier
This database includes industry reports from several well-respected sources, particularly Datamonitor's Industry Profiles and Global Insight's Industry Yearbooks. You can also read Datamonitor reports on individual companies within your sector, which include histories, SWOT analyses, and revenue analyses.
EDGAR Database
The government-maintained repository of corporate financial reports (such as 10-Ks and 10-Qs) filed with the SEC. These reports include cash flows, balance sheets, and other information for many companies.
Hoover's Online
While full site content is available only to subscribers, visitors can obtain "capsules" on many companies (including summary of activities, basic financial data such as balance sheets and income statements, competitors, and news information) and "snapshots" on industries (including "industry lowdown", key people, major companies, and links to additional resources).
LexisNexis Academic: Business
In the Business section of LexisNexis, you can access in-depth company profiles from sources such as Hoovers and S&P, view company financial data and SEC filings, or find news articles about individual companies or industries
Standard & Poor's NetAdvantage
This database is a comprehensive source of business and investment information, offering on-line access to Standard & Poor's independent research, data and commentary on stocks, bonds, funds, and industries. Products available through this database include the Industry Surveys, Company Profiles, Stock Reports, Bond Reports, and Global Annual Reports. Profiles include detailed analysis by S&P experts as well as recent financial data.

They are used to develop forecasts of the business climate, examine the relationship between various socioeconomic factors, or simply to make the case for a change in public policy. EconData.net
A handy guide to statistical data sources on the Internet, with website links organized by subject (such as Income, Quality of Life, and Occupations) and provider. Only authoritative resources are listed.
Federal Reserve Economic Data (FRED)
This online database maintained by the St. Louis branch of the Fed offers over 3,000 time series of U.S. economic data, generally going back several decades. Although many of the variables relate to banking and monetary economics, you can also find historical data for CPI, unemployment, earnings, and other economic indicators. The data can be viewed in charts or downloaded for analysis.
FedStats
The U.S. federal government's one-stop search engine for locating government-produced statistics on all subjects. Use the Topic Links to jump to the best resources by topic, or try their excellent search engine for more specific needs.
Free Lunch
An easy-to-use website sponsored by Moody's that offers free economic, financial, and demographic data for viewing and downloading. Free registration is required.
Historical Statistics of the United States
This comprehensive compendium of statistics provides a quantitative history of the United States, with over 37,000 data series on topics such as health, crime, migration, and the economy. The searchable online version allows you to create customized tables and download data series for processing in a spreadsheet.
International Financial Statistics
"The IFS database contains approximately 32,000 time series covering more than 200 countries and areas and includes all series appearing on the IFS Country Pages; exchange rate series for all Fund member countries, plus Aruba and the Netherlands Antilles; major Fund accounts series; and most other world, area, and country series from the IFS World Tables. STAT-USA IN LIBRARY ONLY
A source of business, economic and trade information from the Federal government. It includes the National Trade Data Bank. Access requires a password. Please ask at the Reference Desk to be signed in to STAT-USA by a reference librarian.
United Nations Statistical Databases
Although some of the UN's statistical products require a paid subscription, there are a number of excellent databases available from this website for free. These include the Demographic Yearbook system, the National Accounts time series, and several population databases.
US Census Bureau
The Census Bureau's page on its economic programs includes data by business sector, the Economic Census, County Business Patterns (economic profiles down to the local level), Statistics of U.S Businesses, and a wide range of other authoritative resources.
World Development Indicators Online
This database contains country-by-country time series data on over 600 development indicators, including variables related to health, education, trade, the economy, and the environment in each country. The step-by-step data selection procedure enables easy creation and download of data tables for analysis.

American FactFinder
This government site allows the 2000 census data of socioeconomic and demographic variables to be searched by geographic location, zip code, national and state totals, and metropolitan statistical areas.
Census Scope
This site offers numerous well-formatted charts, tables and maps summarizing major Census demographic variables, at the national, state, and metro levels. It also provides rankings by state and metro areas.
International Data Base
Another Census-produced site, with an easy-to-use database of demographic information by country, including historic data, projected population pyramids, and some valuable cross-tabulations.
New Hampshire Data Center
Developed by the state's Office of Energy Planning, this website compiles statistics on New Hampshire's population, economy, taxes, health, and other characteristics.
Population Reference Bureau
Click on the DataFinder to access the PRB's user-friendly database for obtaining basic demographic and health data on the countries of the world. Also check their data sheets for nice summaries of key demographic issues.
Social Explorer
This web tool allows you to interactively generate maps for a variety of Census variables such as race, income, and education level, with detail down to the Census tract level. Maps are currently available for Censuses dating back to 1940, although earlier Censuses will be added over time. You can also produce tables of tract-level data based on the maps you've created.
State and County Quick Facts
Easy to use website from the US Census Bureau. Provides comparative data for each state and county for 33 categories divided into three groups: Population, Business & Geography.
United Nations Demographic Yearbook
This well-known print reference source is now available online, including the most recent published versions as well as special issues and a historical supplement that contains data for 1948–1997. Includes a range of variables related to population, fertility, mortality, and marriage.

American Economic Association: Resources for Economists on the Internet

Bureau of Economic Analysis
This government agency produces reports and statistics related to GDP, international trade, foreign investment, income, and other variables, with breakdowns by region and industry. You can also access the Survey of Current Business for free on their website.
Bureau of Labor Statistics
The BLS is an agency of the US government that produces statistics related to employment, wages, productivity, and inflation (the CPI and PPI). Their website also includes a nice tool (Regional Resources) for viewing state and metro-level statistics, as well as the full text of the Monthly Labor Review.
Economagic: Economic Time Series Page
Provides free, economic time series data, mainly for the US. A great place to look for long historical trends in economic variables.
Economic Indicators
View the latest governmental press releases on the major economic indicators (such as housing starts, retail sales, GDP, and construction spending), or download spreadsheets containing historic time-series data for these indicators.
Economic Report of the President
Written by the Council of Economic Advisors, this report presents the President's overview and outlook of the US economy, including extensive tables of statistics. Reports available for 1995 through the present.

FRASER (Federal Reserve Archival System for Economic Research)

Three of the best free sites for obtaining quotes from the U.S. stock, commodities, and futures markets, with some coverage of world market activity as well. Finance also enables you to access historical price data for particular stocks.
