This guide will direct you to print and electronic resources for education related research. If you are a student teacher and would like information on lesson plans and curriculum development please consult our Student Teacher Guide.

All of the resources listed below can be accessed either on campus or remotely by entering in the S number on the back of your student ID.

If you need any assistance in using these resources or if you are having difficulty in locating information, please contact the Education Liaison Librarian.

Project MUSE
Project MUSE provides full text access to more than 200 journals in the arts and humanities, social sciences, and hard sciences. As an interdisciplinary database you will be able to pull up research on the subject of education from a variety of different disciplines.

PsycINFO (User Guide) and PsycARTICLES (User Guide)
Use PsycINFO and PsycARTICLES to locate articles on education, child development, and learning from a psychological perspective.

SocINDEX
Use SocINDEX to research how education affects society and conversely, how society affects education. In addition to containing articles from an academic sociological approach, SocINDEX also contains articles on education from a social work practitioner perspective.

Worldwide Political Science Abstracts (WPSA)
Use WPSA to research domestic and international public policy, legislation, and government programs affecting education.

Find Books

Geisel Library Catalog
Search the library catalog to locate books in Geisel Library. Most education books are located on the Upper Level of the library in the L through LT sections.

To see what new education titles have been added to Geisel Library's collection go to the New Materials webpage and click on the link for Education titles. Acquisitions for the most recent month are listed at the top of the page, to view previous month's acquisitions click on the months at the bottom of the page.

WorldCat
If you have searched the Geisel Library Catalog but could not locate a book on your topic try searching WorldCat, a database that allows you to search the collections of libraries throughout the United States. When you locate a title of interest, click on the ILL icon in the book's catalog record to request the item through interlibrary loan. Your book(s) will be available for pickup in the library within 7–14 days. For assistance in using this database please Ask a Librarian.

Ebrary
This library of thousands of e-books spans across all scholarly disciplines. Books can either be opened in QuickView for instant viewing or in the ebrary Reader (a downloadable plug-in), which provides enhanced functionality such as the ability to copy/paste, highlight, or take notes in a particular book.

Searching the World Wide Web can yield a vast amount of information, but in terms of quality and reliability, your results may be uneven at best. The ease and speed with which individuals can publish information on the web, regardless of accuracy or quality makes it imperative that when doing research on the web you know how to evaluate the information you find. General Education Sites

Educator's Reference Desk
The Educator's Reference Desk is broken up into 3 sections: Resource Guides, Lesson Plans, and Question Archives. The Lesson Plans section allows you to search through lesson plans on a number of subjects including: language arts, science, social studies, and foreign language. The Resource Guides and Question Archives sections point you in the direction of web resources and journal articles on a variety of research topics including: evaluation, educational technology, and family life, among others.

Education World
Education World is a comprehensive website for educators with news, website reviews, and a search engine for education related materials on the web. The website also contains lesson plans, articles, and information on using technology in the classroom.

Research Report Aggregators

Use the following websites to locate electronically published research written by various think tanks, policy institutions, non-governmental organizations, non-for-profits, and research foundations on the topic of education. All of the websites are searchable by keyword or browsable by subject area or research institution.

Data, Statistics, and Analysis

Annie E. Casey Foundation
The Annie E. Casey Foundation performs extensive research on the state of the child in the United States. Much of the research focuses on social or community initiatives and their role in improving child development. Publication of note: Kids Count series.

Center on Education Policy
The Center on Education Policy's (CEP) research focuses on the U.S. public school system. Topics of research include assessment, testing, school violence, and funding.

Child Trends
Research available at Child Trends deals with public policy program evaluation, child welfare, child poverty, and the role of the family in school readiness and cognitive development.

Committee on Education and Labor
Use the House Education and Labor Committee website to stay informed of recent legislation affecting all levels of education in the United States.

Education Sector
A think tank that monitors education related legislation, Education Sector produces valuable reports on K-12 and higher education including funding, student loan debt, teacher quality, reform, and school choice.

Global Education Database
Collected by USAID and UNESCO, the Global Education Database is a great place to gather international education statistics, including female/male student enrollment, graduation rates, and literacy rates.

National Catholic Educational Association
Use this website to research the state of Catholic schools in the United States. A tremendous amount of data is available on this websites including enrollment data of K-12 and higher education institutions and SAT and other national assessment test results.

National Center for Education Statistics
The National Center for Education Statistics, a division of the U.S. Department of Education, is responsible for gathering and disseminating education related statistics and analysis. Research is available on topics as diverse as crime in the nation's schools to early childhood development to the assessment of the nation's public school system.

National Education Association
Serving as the premier professional association for public educators in the United States, the NEA makes available a wealth of information on its website. The "Issues and Action" link brings you to original reports and the "Tools and Ideas" link brings you to newsletters and lesson plan ideas.

National Education Association – Higher Education
This is NEA's higher education information portal, click on the "Research Center" link to access statistics. Publication of note: NEA Almanac of Higher Education.

National Institute for Early Education Research
Hosted by the Rutgers Graduate School of Education, the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER) deals specifically with the education of children aged 3–4 years. Topics with available research and data include program assessment, special education issues, English language learning, and school readiness.

New Hampshire Department of Education
This official web site of the New Hampshire state government has information on New Hampshire schools, curriculum, finance, credentialing, reports and statistics, assessment, and more.

RAND Corporation – Education Research Area
Topics included in RAND Corporation research reports are wide ranging, including children and adolescent mental health concerns, the effect of No Child Left Behind on teacher and school performance, and the assessment of charter schools, among others.

U.S. Department of Education
As the U.S. governmental agency dedicated to the study of education in the United States, the U.S. Department of Education's website makes available a wealth of research, reports, analysis, and statistics to practitioners and education researchers. Also of note are their publications and listings of education related grant opportunities.
