  1. What can I do if I cannot log in to make an Interlibrary Loan request?
If you cannot log in to the Interlibrary Loan system, it is probably because your "S" number on the back of you student ID is different than what is in the system. Contact Interlibrary Loan staff at extension 7303 or email us at illsta@anselm.edu. We will change your "S" number and within a few hours, you should be able to log in. In the meantime you may email us up to three ILL requests. Please be sure to include full citation information.

  2. Do I have enough time to request an item through Interlibrary Loan?
It is true that borrowing materials from another library lacks the instant gratification that most of us want (especially when a paper is due). We suggest that you begin your research as soon as it is assigned. Usually it takes about a week for an article and two weeks for a book to arrive. Let us know if your need for an item is particularly urgent--sometimes we can get the other library to speed up the process.

  3. What I requested is not what I expected! How can I prevent this?
Has your article arrived, but it is only a letter to the editor? Or, the book with the great title turned out to be written for high school students? You can do two things to avoid getting material that is not helpful to your research. You could try to find a book review to assess the quality and appropriateness of the book, and for articles, check the page numbers cited. A one-page 'article' found on the first couple of pages of a magazine might simply be a letter to the editor or short news item.

  4. How come I cannot get the latest work by my favorite author?
Most libraries will not lend recently published books. Wait for six months after the publication date, and your chances of being able to borrow the book are increased. Also, look up your book in WorldCat, then click on the "Libraries Worldwide" link. The more libraries that own the material, the better your chances are of being able to borrow it.

  5. My article has arrived—but it's not in English! How could I have known this?
Check the citation carefully to make sure that the work you are requesting was written in a language you can read. Sometimes English-language citations and abstracts are describing a work written in another language.

  6. Why haven't I received the item I requested?
If it has been more than a week since you requested an article, or more than two weeks since you requested a book, feel free to call or email us to follow-up on your request. Also, check your SAC post office box and SAC email account regularly when you are expecting an item from ILL.

  7. I've heard there's a quick method of requesting books through WorldCat—how do you do it?
Try searching for books and other materials in the WorldCat database. Once you have a list of results, click on the title, which brings up the detailed record; at the top of the page there is an ILL icon, 3rd button from the left, which looks like this:

Click on it and simply fill out the brief form that appears and then click on submit. No need to copy and paste the citation information, and your request goes directly to libraries that own the book.

  8. The email I received telling me my book arrived went to my junk email. How can I prevent this from happening again?
There is a setting that you can make in your junk email box that will allow the Arrival Notice to be received in your regular email.

    1. The next time you receive a Junk Box Summary, click on the link "Visit Junk Box."
    2. Click on the Anti-Spam Techniques icon.
    3. Select the Allowed tab.
    4. Select Add.
    5. Enter illsta@anselm.edu and then click on Add.
    6. The words "Added addresses successfully" will appear in red.
    7. Sign off.
