If you don't see your question answered here, please e-mail the Interlibrary Loan office for assistance.
What are my username and password for logging into ILLiad?
Your ILLiad username is the same as your Anselm email account, but without the "@anselm.edu". Your ILLiad password is the S number on the back of your college ID, including the S in upper case.
Why is my ILLiad login not working?
If you are unable to successfully log in to ILLiad, there are several possible explanations. First, be aware that the password is case-sensitive, so make sure to enter your password with an S in upper case. If you are still unable to log in, it is likely that the "S" number on your college ID does not match your ILLiad password. Contact the Interlibrary Loan office, and we will work to resolve the problem as soon as possible.
How do I request an item through Interlibrary Loan?
There are three different ways of requesting an item through interlibrary loan, depending on where you found the citation. See this presentation for a visual walk-through of the process.
1. If your citation is found in the WorldCat database:
When a desired item is found in WorldCat, click on its title, which will open the item's catalog record. Below the item's citation information, click the "Request via Interlibrary Loan" link that appears next to the "External Resources" heading. You will be prompted to log in with your ILLiad username and password. The request form will be automatically filled in with the item's citation information. Review the request and press the 'Submit' button.
2. If your citation is found through other library databases:
Most of our library databases allow you to place interlibrary loan requests via a tool called WebBridge. When a needed citation is found in a library database, click the WebBridge button and look for links to the item's full-text or to our catalog. If we don't have direct access, click on the link at bottom called 'Request via Geisel Library Inter-Library Loan (ILL)'. You will be prompted to log into ILLiad with your username and password. The request form will be automatically filled in with the item's citation information. Review the request and press the 'Submit Request' button.
3. If your citation is found through other resources, such as websites, recommendations from professors, or bibliographies:
First, check to make sure the desired item is not available in the library's collection or online resources. If not available, click on the Interlibrary Loan link on the library homepage. You will be prompted to log into ILLiad with your username and password. Choose the type of item you are requesting under 'New Request' to the left of the screen. A form will be provided, for which you will need to enter the citation information. Then press the 'Submit Request' button.
How long does it take to receive an item through Interlibrary Loan?
Turn-around time for receipt of most materials is one to two weeks. However, patrons should allow one week for journal articles and three weeks for books from time of submission to final receipt due to problems that may arise with availability, verification, or postal delivery. Because of this, we suggest that you begin your research several weeks before your paper's due date. Let us know if your need for an item is particularly urgent—sometimes we can get the other library to speed up the process.
Can I place an ILL request for an item that Geisel Library owns but which is currently checked out?
Yes, in most cases. Please indicate in the Comments field that our copy of the item is checked out.
Is there a limit on how many items I can request?
No. Students, faculty, and staff can request as many items as they want. However, we encourage you to only request items that you think you will use, since in many cases, there are costs to obtaining and shipping items via ILL.
How will I know when my item arrives?
ILLiad will automatically send an email to your Anselm account when an item arrives. If it arrives in electronic form (for example, a journal article or book chapter), you can log in to your ILLiad account and view the item. If it is mailed to the library (for example, a book or DVD), you can pick it up at the Circulation Desk.
How do I access electronic articles that I received through ILL?
Log in to your ILLiad account. In the menu on the left, click "View Electronically Received Articles". You will see a list of all the articles that you have received electronically through ILL over the past 90 days. To view or download an article, click on the file icon. You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer in order to open articles received through ILL.
What if I accidentally delete an article from the Electronically Received Articles web page?
If you accidentally delete an article, you may undelete it by clicking on the Undelete link. This will make the request information reappear, including the transaction number. Then e-mail the Interlibrary Loan office to ask for the PDF to be re-posted. Please be sure to include the transaction number in the e-mail text.
How do I renew an item that I received through ILL?
Renewal requests may be made on any Interlibrary Loan material, as long as the "No Renewals" restriction has not been placed on the material by the lending library. First, log in to your ILLiad account. In the menu on the left, click "View Renewals/ Checked Out Items". Choose the item you wish to renew and click on the transaction number to open the transaction information web page. Click on the Renewal Request button at the top of the page. The due date will automatically be changed for this transaction. Please note that the lending library may either grant or deny this renewal, or they may give you a different due date then the one ILLiad assigns. Check this web page in a day or two to verify the due date that the lending library assigns. You will be contacted by the Interlibrary Loan Office if the renewal is denied. Note that items can only be renewed once. A warning message will appear upon clicking the Renew Request button if the item has already been renewed.
Can I renew an item after its due date?
Yes, if your ILL item is only overdue by a day or two, you may request a renewal. If your item is overdue by more than a day or two, you can return it and then submit a new ILL request for another copy.
Can I renew an item more than once?
No. Please return the item and then submit a new ILL request for another copy.
Why hasn't my item arrived yet?
You can log in to your ILLiad account to monitor the status of your outstanding ILL requests. After logging in, check the table in the center of the screen, which lists all your pending requests and their statuses. If it has been more than a week since you requested an article, or more than two weeks since you requested a book, feel free to contact the Interlibrary Loan office to follow up on your request.
My article has arrived—but it's not in English! How could I have known this?
When you find an article of interest in a research database, carefully look through the information about the article. In most databases, there will be a field indicating the language in which the article was published. Even if the article's title and abstract are in English, the article itself may have been written in another language.
