Find Journal Articles

Search the following indexes to locate citations to and/or full-text of journal articles. If the article does not appear to be full-text online, search for its availability using the Journal Finder. Journals listed as "in Geisel Library Paper Holdings" are shelved alphabetically by journal title on the Lower Level of the library. Many others are available full-text online by following the links provided.

Academic Search Premier
A broad index providing abstracts and some full-text for a range of academic areas, including physics.

Astrophysics Data System
"The main body of data in the ADS consists of bibliographic records, including abstracts, of conference proceedings, bulletins, and observatory publications in astronomy and astrophysics. Some full-text articles are also included in this database."

PapersFirst
A citation-only database; links to papers presented at meetings, conferences and symposia worldwide. It is often possible to obtain the papers via our Interlibrary Loan service.

SciFinder Scholar
SciFinder Scholar provides access to Chemical Abstracts from 1907 to the present. Visit the library's SciFinder Scholar page for more information on this database.

Spires HEP Literature Database
The Stanford Public Information Retrieval System (SPIRES) indexes more than 500,000 high energy physics-related papers in this public access database.

Find Books

Search the library catalog to locate books in Geisel Library. Search by keyword (e.g., big bang theory) if you are unsure of the title you are looking for. Most physics books are located on the Upper Level of the library in the QC section. Search WorldCat to search collections of libraries worldwide. Find a book in this database, and, if not owned by SAC, you can request it from Interlibrary Loan with one click. Your book(s) will be available for pickup in the library within 7–14 days. Ask for help in using this database at the reference desk, in person, or online at Ask a Librarian.

Selected Websites

Searching the World Wide Web can yield a vast amount of information, but in terms of quality and reliability, your results may be uneven at best. The ease and speed with which individuals can publish information on the web, regardless of accuracy or quality, makes it imperative that when doing research on the web you know how to evaluate the information you find. To learn more, see Judging What You Find.

American Institute of Physics
Includes information on AIP publications, conferences, jobs and more.

ArXiv.org
ArXiv.org is a fully automated electronic archive and distribution server for research papers in physics, computer science, mathematics, and other scientific endeavors.

DC Physics: Help for Students
Developed for physics students, this web site has links to animations/simulations, reference aids, shareware, freeware, and tutorials. It also has links to other physics web sites.

Google Scholar
Google Scholar indexes a subset of scholarly literature in all fields. Coverage appears to be strong in the area of physics, especially for scholarship that is available online.

Institute of Physics
Includes full text of journals New Journal of Physics, Classical and Quantum Gravity, and Distributed Systems Engineering. Abstracts available for Journal of Physics parts A, B, C, D & G. Consult the Library Reference desk for help in obtaining the full text of these articles.

Learn Physics Today
The first chapter helps the student to develop basic math skills needed to study physics. The remaining fourteen chapters cover mechanics, lights and waves, and electricity. There are quizzes at the end of each chapter.

Physical Review Online Archive (PROLA) Mirror
Cornell University Library houses a live mirror of PROLA, the American Physical Society's Physical Review Online Archive. It is "the concrete expression of APS's commitment to ensuring the immediate and long-term accessibility all journal content that we publish."

Physics 2000
An easily navigable web site that incorporates interactive applets to enable learning in modern physics.

Physics: An annotated list of key resources on the Internet
Published in C&RL News (College and Research Libraries) in March 2000.

Physics Laboratory: NIST Physical Reference Data
Sponsored by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, this web site is divided into six major divisions: electron and optical physics; atomic physics; optical technology; ionizing radiation; time and frequency and quantum physics.
