Find Journal Articles

What does this box search?                       Advanced Search

Search the following databases to locate citations and/or full text of journal articles. In some cases, the database will provide links to the full text of articles. If you see a    button next to an article of interest, click it to determine whether the journal is available in the Geisel Library or in full text via another electronic database. WebBridge will also help you request articles through Interlibrary Loan if they aren't available through our library. If there is no WebBridge button, search for the journal's availability using the Journal Finder. Journals listed as being in "Geisel Library Paper Holdings" are shelved alphabetically by journal title on the Lower Level of the library.

Core Resources

PsycINFO
The PsycINFO database contains more than 1.5 million references to psychological literature spanning 1887 to the present day. It includes citations to journal articles, dissertations, reports, English-language book chapters and books, and other scholarly documents relevant to psychology and the psychological aspects of such disciplines as education, business, medicine, nursing, law, and social work.    User Guide

PubMed
PubMed is a database of biomedical citations and abstracts that includes Medline (see above). Use this database to search for citations to articles that aren't in Medline because they're outside of that database's scope—for example, citations to general science and general chemistry journals. It also contains some citations that aren't in Medline: current citations not yet added and older citations. In some cases, this database also provides links to full-text articles and will also provide links to citations to related articles.
User Guide      Further information on PubMed and Medline.

Additional Subject Resources

AgeLine Database
"Detailed summaries of more than 90,000 publications about aging and the 50+ population."

ERIC

MEDLINE
MEDLINE is the premier bibliographic database of the National Library of Medicine. Coverage is available for over 4,000 international journals in all languages from 1966 to the present, including some full text.   (more info)

Westlaw Campus
This database provides access to the complete laws and statutes of the federal government and all 50 states, all federal regulations published in the Federal Register and the Code of Federal Regulations, and full-text articles from hundreds of law reviews and journals. Westlaw Campus also includes American Jurisprudence and American Law Reports, which offer authoritative, encyclopedic discussions of legal issues.

"This database provides full text articles on current issues in psychology from respected sources, spanning from 1988 to the present. PsycARTICLES includes more than 25,000 full-text articles from 42 journals published by American Psychological Association and allied organizations. All journals included in this database are indexed in PsycINFO."

Find Books

Search the library catalog to locate books in Geisel Library. Search by keyword (e.g. pollyanna principle) if you are unsure of the title you are looking for. Most psychology books are located on the Upper Level of the library in the BF section.

Search WorldCat to search the collections of libraries worldwide. Find a book in this database, and, if not owned by SAC, you can request it from Interlibrary Loan with one click. Your book(s) will be available for pickup in the library within 7–14 days. Ask for help in using this database at the reference desk, in person, or online at Ask a Librarian.

Ebrary is an online library containing thousands of e-books spanning across all scholarly disciplines. Books can either be opened in QuickView for instant viewing or in the ebrary Reader (a downloadable plug-in), which provides enhanced functionality such as the ability to copy/paste, highlight, or take notes in a particular book.

Selected Websites

Searching the World Wide Web can yield a vast amount of information, but in terms of quality and reliability, your results may be uneven at best. The ease and speed with which individuals can publish information on the web, regardless of accuracy or quality, makes it imperative that when doing research on the web you know how to evaluate the information you find.    [More Information]

Authoratory
"Authoratory enables you to find the most prolific writers on a topic — type in a search term and you see a list of authors whose articles cover those topics." (Mary Ellen Bates, April 2007)

Materials found in Google Scholar include "peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts and articles from academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories, universities and other scholarly organizations" (About Google Scholar, 2006). Some, but not all, of the content in Google Scholar is available in full text. Google Scholar is a good starting point for research, but it is not considered comprehensive for scholarly content. For the most thorough search of a topic, consult subject-specific indexes (CJ Abstracts, PsycINFO, SocINDEX, etc.).
