The Alva de Mars Megan Chapel Art Center will open the exhibition, “Carol Odell Monotypes,”
Thursday, Oct. 11, with a reception at 6 p.m. The show will run through Saturday, Oct. 27, concurrently with “Passages,” an exhibition of collages created by James Palmigiano, O.C. S.O. The reception and exhibits are free and open to the public.
Carol Odell will discuss and demonstrate her monotype technique during a noon session Thursday, Oct. 18, at the gallery. Chapel Art will host a reception in her honor that evening from 6 to 8. These events are also free and open to the public.
Carol Odell's exhibition is a continuation of the Chapel Art Center's Sala/Studiolo, which strives to
enhance study and education of various art forms. To create a monotype, Odell manipulates ink or paint onto the surface of a smooth plate and then transfers that image onto paper by means of pressure.
She says she prefers this medium because of its painterly qualities. The freedom of manipulation and the luminous quality of the prints allow her to concentrate freely on the harmonious expression of color and form.
