Russ Immarigeon, an expert on women in the criminal justice system, will deliver a lecture at the Alva de Mars Megan Chapel Art Center at Saint Anselm College, Jan. 31, as part of the Incarceration Epidemic Series.
His lecture, “Challenging the Overuse of Incarceration in New England,” is part of “The Incarceration Epidemic: Justice for Whom?” speaker series accompanying the exhibit “Interrupted Life: Incarcerated mothers in the United States,” on display Jan 24-Feb 21.
Immarigeon is a nationally known expert on issues related to women and girls in the criminal justice system, offender programming, and restorative justice. He is the editor of Women, Girls, and Criminal Justice, Offender Programs Report, VOMA Connections and the managing editor of Journal of Offender Monitoring. Immarigeon has served as a policy analyst for such groups as the Massachusetts Council for Public Justice, the Maine Council of Churches, and the National Council on Crime and Delinquency.
The Alva de Mars Megan Chapel Art Center at Saint Anselm College will also host a panel presentation on Jan 31. “The Intersection of Criminal and Social Justice” will address the basic principles underlying criminal justice and social justice and examine whether current criminal justice policies and penal sanctions are reflective of a just society.
The panel will feature faculty members Dr. Elaine Rizzo (criminal justice), Dr. Loretta Brady (psychology), Sara Smits (sociology), and Dr. Peter Cordella (criminal justice). Both events are free and open to the public. For more events related to this series go to www.anselm.edu/interruptedlife.
