The Alva de Mars Megan Chapel Art Center at Saint Anselm College will open its exhibition season this month with A Figural Presence, which will feature drawings, paintings and sculptures of the human figure.
The show opens Thursday, Sept. 24, with a gallery reception from 4 to 7 p.m., and will run through Wednesday, Nov. 25. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.
A Figural Presence embarks upon a new way of learning at the Chapel Art Center, with selections of significant contemporary American figurative works of art. Funded in part by a $10,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, the exhibition also will involve discussions about the art with curators and artists, as well as a commissioned musical performance and a commissioned poetry reading.
Although art can be intimidating, Father Iain says the subject will make this exhibition broadly accessible.
A Figural Presence is a show that contains the human presence: the presence of an artist, the presence of an objective beauty, the presence of certain truths and ideas,
The show features works of Lisa Bartolozzi, Michael Bergt, Jacob Collins, Martha Mayer Erlebacher, Daniel Ludwig, Eve Mansdorf, Philip Pearlstein, Paul Rahilly, and David Simon.
The show also includes artists Steven Assael, Robert Bauer, Stephen Brown, Katherine Doyle, Ellen Eagle, Renee Foulks, Alan Feltus, Raymond Han, Susan Hauptman, Richard Maury, Diana Moore, Elliot Offner, Graydon Parrish, Gary Ruddell, Bruce Samuelson, and Laura Ziegler.
The Chapel Art Center is open from Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and until 8 p.m. Thursdays. The center will be closed Saturday, Oct. 10 through Tuesday, Oct. 13.
