Main research interests: Early American Moderns (specifically Georgia O'Keeffe and Alfred Stieglitz), history of photography, and influence of Islamic art on western art. Most recent of five books, Stieglitz: A Beginning Light. Can discuss 19th, 20th, and 21st century art and art history, including film and photography.

Other:  Awarded a Fulbright Distinguished Chair position for the spring 2006 semester; has exhibited and published photographs.
