Karen Spellman ’04
As a student ambassador for the President’s Society, Karen attended President’s Society dinners where she had the chance to sit at a table with six-to-ten alumni and share stories of their experiences at Saint Anselm College. There was plenty to talk about: she was an accomplished athlete, playing lacrosse for three years, and joining the college’s first women’s ice hockey team. She was also active in student government.
“I could see how much these alums appreciate the school and how much it still means to them. They wanted to give something back,” Karen says. “As a student I was the beneficiary. When I was a freshman, there was no hockey rink at Saint A’s, and by the time I was a senior I was on the ice. I want to give back to the school so that students will have things like that in the future.”
After graduating, Karen accepted a position as assistant case manager at Partners Health Care in Boston. She works in the corporate sponsored research department with people who negotiate contracts for clinical trials. Though she does not have a clinical or medical background, her knowledge as a business major and an intern at BAE Systems in Nashua prepared her well. Eventually, she’d like to go into the field of contract law. Karen’s brother, Michael ’00, is also an associate member of the President’s Society.
