Alumni Hall's room 10 has been the site of countless classes, but until recently, it likely had never hosted a marriage proposal.
“I’ve been working on my plan to propose since the day I met Lindsey,” says Shawn Valliere, a senior from Severna Park, Md. “I wanted to ask her to spend the rest of her life with me in the very spot that we first met.”
Enlisting the help of Joe Horton, vice president of student affairs, and friend Paul Servideo, a junior, Shawn lured Lindsey O’Rourke, also a junior, to the third-floor classroom where the couple met two years ago during Biblical Theology class.
The Bedford, N.H., woman arrived expecting to attend a meeting for students planning to graduate early, but arrived to find the room decorated with white rose petals and tea candles.
“I walked into the room where we met and saw Shawn standing there in his suit,” recalls O’Rourke. “He had the most beautiful ring in his hand and the next thing I knew he was down on one knee!”
The couple later celebrated their engagement with O’Rourke’s family, whose arrival Valliere arranged via cellphone, as he waited for his future bride to walk into the room.
