Dr. Margaret Carson, director of continuing education in nursing, will return to the classroom next semester, when she exchanges her directorship for a full-time faculty position.
“I have taught before, and I enjoy working with students,” she said. “I am really looking forward to working with them again.”
She has been director of nursing continuing education for six years, coming to the college from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Manchester, N.H. She spent 12 years at the hospital, where she did groundbreaking research into Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in nurses who served in the Vietnam War. She is in high demand as a speaker on the topic.
In 2004, she was named Nurse of the Year by the New Hampshire Nurses Association for her work in nursing continuing education at Saint Anselm. Among her innovations is the Learning Tours to Europe, which the lover of humanities started in 2002. This year, 49 travelers, mainly nurses, went to Greece for a trip entitled “Our Philosophical Roots.” The year before, travelers studied “The Social Fabric of Health” as represented in art found in Florence and Venice. She will continue to coordinate the trips, which occur during spring break.
