Parallel Lives

Saint Anselm College is a very different place now than it was in the 1970s. Or is it?

Tom Sheehan ’76 and Janet (Morneau) Sheehan ’76 met as students at Saint Anselm College in the early 1970s. Their oldest daughter Kerry graduated in 2002 and son Tom ’05 and younger daughter Colleen ’07 are now students.

Tom And ColleenWhat is your favorite class?
Tom —My internship with the Lawrence probation office at Lawrence District Court in the fall of 2004. I learned a lot, the real life experience can’t be beat.

What is your favorite meal?
Tom—The Buffalo Chicken Calzone in the Coffee Shop.
Colleen —The Deli Wrap Sandwiches at Davison.

How much did you spend on books this semester?
Tom—Usually about $200–$500 a semester
Colleen —$500 first semester, $300 second semester

Where do you typically study?
Tom—I almost always study in the library, it is too noisy in my townhouse. I have a favorite place downstairs in the corner where it is quiet.
Colleen —I usually study in Cushing Lounge. The library is too quiet for me.

Why did you choose to attend Saint Anselm College?
Tom—The combination of ski racing and the criminal justice major—Saint Anselm was my top choice college.
Colleen —I was dead set against coming here at first, but I applied just because…I was looking for education programs and I wanted to play lacrosse.

Where do you go off campus to hang out with friends?
Tom—The Mall of New Hampshire, Wal-Mart, Manchester Buffet.
Colleen —The Mall of New Hampshire, Wal-Mart, Margarita’s.

What is the last concert you attended?
Tom—I saw Kenny Chesney last summer at the Tweeter Center. I also saw Tim McGraw last year.
Colleen —This past year I saw Tim McGraw, Guster and Dispatch.

What is your favorite Saint Anselm memory?
Tom—Being asked to be in the Red Key Society, the Democratic debate, and experiencing the New Hampshire Primary—I saw all the candidates; General Clark, Senator Kerry, Dennis Kucinich and Al Sharpton.
Colleen —The New Hampshire Primary.

Who is your most inspirational professor?
Tom—Elaine Rizzo, I have had her for so many classes, and learned the most from her. I also had my internship with her.
Colleen —It is too soon to tell.

What is the biggest difference between you and your parents?
Tom —I am panicking about getting a job. My parents are much more relaxed, they think everything will work out in the end. My father is a defense lawyer and I want to be a cop. We will be on opposite sides if we ever face each other in court.

What is your favorite spot on campus?
Tom—The pub at night. It is a place to gather socially and get to talk with everyone.
Colleen —The best place on campus is the quad. When it’s warm out, it is a central spot where people gather and play.
