Saint Anselm Inducts Eight into Hall of Fame

Eight individuals representing six different sports, and two special recognition entries, were inducted into the Saint Anselm Athletic Hall of Fame on June 24.

Richard Burke ’70, a senior defenseman on the first varsity hockey team in 1969–70, was active with the program in its final years as a club and played a key role in its elevation to varsity. According to Ed Cannon¸ director of athletics, Burke “has consistently been a strong influence in sending quality young people to Saint Anselm.” Watching over student-athletes from the Milton, Mass., and South Shore areas, Burke has helped recruit countless players including All- America selection Steve Murphy ’83.

Steven Gulla ’88 was the top men’s tennis player and is the school’s alltime leader in singles wins (33) and second in doubles wins (26). An All- Northeast-10 Conference player, team MVP and two-time captain, Gulla boasted a singles winning percentage of 67.3.

One of the lady Hawks’ top basketball scorers and rebounders, Andrea Sunday Hallett ’95 is fourth in career points with 1,494 and second in career rebounds with 1,046. She is one of two players to notch 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds. Hallett is the program’s top shot blocker with 340, sixth in scoring average (13.2), third in rebounds average (9.2), third in career field goals (610), and seventh in free throws (274). She helped the Hawks to a four-year combined record of 76-42. She was a three-time All-Northeast-10 Conference performer, earning First Team honors as a senior; a CoSIDA All- America Honorable Mention and was named to the ECAC Division II North First Team.

Florida State University soccer head coach Mark Krikorian ’83 was a standout player, two-time captain and team MVP in the early 1980s. Since leaving Saint Anselm, Krikorian has succeeded at every level of soccer as a women’s coach. He guided Franklin Pierce College to national championships in 1992 and 1995 before moving to the University of Hartford where his teams went to an Elite Eight and a pair of Sweet Sixteen appearances. Krikorian was head coach of the Philadelphia Charge of the WUSA from 2000–2003, earning coach of the year honors in 2002. He coached two years with USA Soccer including a bronze medal performance with the U-19 squad at the Women’s World Cup before being named to coach at FSU.
