Comic Relief: Scott ’99 and Chris ’96 Proulx

Scott '99 and Chris '96 Proulx
As kids in Auburn, N.H., Scott and Chris Proulx stored their massive comic book collections under their beds. Now, they have plenty of room to display their oldies but goodies, as well as about 35,000 current and classic issues. Two years ago, they opened Double Midnight Comics & Collectibles in downtown Manchester with fellow Spiderman fan, Brett Parker. Business is booming, especially around 3 p.m., when school lets out. In a way, the brothers’ studies in sociology were ideal preparation for running a business and dealing with the group dynamic of their after-school customers.

Besides comic books, Double Midnight sells action figures, board games, posters, T-shirts, and paperbacks. The store hosts game nights, tournaments, and special events.

Chris also runs an independent film company and volunteers at the New Hampshire Film Expo, which he helped create in 2001. His first feature length film, Nowheresville, premiered in 2001 and Man or Ice Cream Man is in the works. When they’re not minding the store, Chris can be found working at an insurance company and Scott teaches in an alternative education program at Mountain View Middle School in Goffstown. Scott is also completing a master’s degree in special education.
