services industries. These are just a few of the topics Saint Anselm College alumni have explored through the Boston Business Roundtable (BBR), an association of Boston area business leaders and executives committed to fostering networking and camaraderie among Saint Anselm College alumni. The BBR began in the fall of 1999 with discussions between Jim Hauser 91 and Barry Smith 87, about ways Boston area alumni could share business and professional experiences, knowledge and opportunities.
We wanted to create a new forum for alumni who are business leaders, with a more professional focus than social networking, says Hauser, who now chairs the BBR executive committee of 12 other alumni. The concept was modeled after programs at other schools, including Boston College and Holy Cross.
The concept has evolved into a vibrant association of business leaders and executives, all alumni of Saint Anselm College, dedicated to advancing the professional development of other alumni in the greater Boston and southern New Hampshire area. The BBR sponsors a speaker series and other events that bring alumni together to share common interests, goals and experiences.
Robert Weiler 73, chairman of the Saint Anselm College Board of Trustees, and president and CEO of PhaseForward, Inc., launched the speaker series in early 2000 with a discussion on the role of technology and the Internet in the 21st century. William Stewart 82, founding general partner of APV Technology, and J.J. Healy 83, of Healy Capital and former vice president of corporate development with Yahoo!, discussed trends in private equity, start-ups, and venture capital. Most recently, Joanne Pietrini Smith 85, senior vice president at AXA Financial Inc., spoke about opportunities for growth in the financial services industry.
