Lance and Jim
Lance Armstrong and Jim HargreavesJim Hargreaves ’89, is a Nashua, N.H., police patrolman, a husband, and a father. He’s also a cancer survivor, an athlete, and now a fund-raiser. In October 2003, he participated in the Ride for the Roses, a 100-mile bicycle ride sponsored by the Lance Armstrong Foundation to raise funds for cancer research.

The foundation raised more than $4 million at the Texas event, including $10,500 that Hargreaves contributed, thanks to his family, friends and community. For him, it was a way to celebrate more than five years of excellent health since his treatment for testicular cancer, the same kind that Armstrong, the five-time Tour de France winner, overcame. Riding next to his cycling hero (far left) was icing on the cake.
